Good MorningEquity markets rebounded Monday as investors bet Friday's PCE report will be good. The consensus is for consumer inflation to moderate at the headline and core levels, aligning with the June CPI report and outlook for the FOMC to cut interest rates. The risk is that the PCE report, like the CPI figures, is priced into the market and will not provide enough catalyst to sustain the rally. In this scenario, the market top reached last week will likely remain in place.
The good news is that the S&P 500 will likely continue in an uptrend. The outlook for earnings drives the uptrend and is stable, so it should support the market over time. The question is how deep, if at all, the correction will be -- and the odds are high that it won't be very deep. While big tech has come under pressure, many companies are poised to do well over the next year, suggesting the rally will not only continue but also improve market breadth.
